Disney’s live action remakes have been hit or miss, to be honest the only one I liked to a certain degree was The Jungle Book, so it makes sense that my excitement for Lion King is pretty well found.
In addition to most of the creative team returning from the “live action” Jungle Book remake, including Jon Favreau as the director, we’re getting Donald Glover as Simba, James Earl Jones returning as Mufasa, Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner as Pumbaa and Timon and John Oliver as Zazu.
It’s being reported now that Chiwetel Ejiofor, John Kani, Alfre Woodard and Beyonce have all joined the cast, rounding out the top key players in this amazing acting ensemble.
Ejiofor will be voicing the villainous Scar, Kani will voice the wise and uncanny Rafiki, Woodard will be voicing Simba’s mother Zarabi and Beyonce will be doing double duty, voicing Nala and will be reportedly producing and writing new songs for the film.
Every actor in this line up is amazing talented, and having Beyonce write new songs for the remake is something inspired and probably will turn out brilliant. So far Favreau and Disney are taking all the right steps to ensure this movie is certainty no shortage of great talent.
The Lion King hits theaters July 19, 2019.
