The movie will be a retelling of the events that lead to and transpired during the famous, or infamous, however you think to look at it, Detroit Riots. The film Stars John Boyega (“Force Awakens”, “Imperial Dreams”), Anthony Mackie (“Our Brand is Crisis”, “Captain America: Civil War”), Jason Mitchell (“Straight Outta Compton”, “Kong: Skull Island”), and John Krasinski (“13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Bengazzi”, “The Hollars”).
This film comes out on a odd release date of August 4, making me wonder if the studio isn’t sure whether or not to push this as a big Oscar contender. Though to be fair, it is a bit early in the year to be thinking about that.
As for my thoughts on the trailer, it’s got a great grit look to it, but I’ve become somewhat disinterested lately in seeing movies about black people rioting, call me whatever but it seems as though we have exhausted that story rhetoric. In my opinion a more interesting story would be to depict something like the Boston Busing Riots.
But for now I’ll remain content for this upcoming movie, which admittedly looks engaging.
Detroit hits theaters on August 4th, 2017.
