Reelbadass Studios: Batman v Superman Trailer Review

Knight and Day.jpg

Okay, I’ve been mulling and thinking about this trailer for the last 24 hours. I’ve read some articles and watched some reaction videos, and read up on some stuff online. The reason I did all that was to make sure that my feelings on this trailer weren’t just me bandwagoning, or me being influence by other people around me, I wanted to make sure that this trailer reaction/review was my own, personal, keepin it one hundred, opinion.

If you are wondering what I’m talking about, as mentioned in the title of this article, last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the latest trailer for the upcoming and highly anticipated DC Comics film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hit online. Which sparked more Civil War than the Captain America: Civil Trailer. The film is presented us as the first of the next wave of interlocking DC Entertainment movies that are occupy the same universe. Directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, Ben Affleck as Bruce  Wayne/Batman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Jesse Eisenberg as Max Landi– oops I mean Lex Luthor.

Clark and Bruce

I’m gonna start with the positives. First off, I love the set up to this trailer, I love the story, er well the Batman v Superman part, will get to Dawn of Justice part later, but the scene where Clark and Bruce first meet and are having that banter back and forth complete with the line “Maybe it’s just the Gotham City in me, but I have bad experiences with freaks who dress like clowns”, that line and that scene is the best thing that came outta this trailer.

To be completely honest everything in this trailer involving Batman v Superman I loved, I loved the reasoning why they are fighting, the story behind, I like the idea that Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor is subtly manipulating them, so they can get rid of each other for him, that all is fascinating to me.

I love the action in this movie, which looks great and tense and fierce. Affleck’s Batman voice, though a little Christian Bale like, is really cool. I was loving this trailer for the first minute and half of it. Now with all that said and out of the way…

WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED?! SERIOSULY, WHAT HAPPENED?! DOOMSDAY?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Not only did they reveal too much, the revealed the one thing that undercuts everything we’ve seen from the marketing of this film. By showing us this image (check below).

Dawn Of Justice

You know basically undercut and negate everything that we’ve been wanting to see, if stops being a Batman v Superman movie and turns into a prequel Justice League movie, and that’s not what this is supposed to be. Not only is the reveal of Doomsday vastly grading, it’s proceeded by Jesse Esienberg’s Luthor, who as I mentioned before, he’s doing a Max Landis impression, and not very good one might I add. Plus, plus in that lab coat delivering that line “If man won’t kill god, the devil will” I was like, is he Victor Frankenstein now?!

Also, Doomsday doesn’t even look like Doomsday, he looks as if Abomination from The Incredible Hulk and Mikey from Ninja Turtles (2014) came together on drunkin one night stand and created their love child in a lab, and to put it bluntly he looks terrible.

The last minute and half of this trailer is so grading and so forced and so unnecessary that I was baffled watching that entire sequence. Look, I’m still going to see the movie and even though this trailer VASTLY undercut my excitement, there is still a glimmer of hope left. Even if the third act is going to be extremely forced and just out of place.

Dawn of Justice opens in theaters March 25th, 2016.
