A few days ago, it was reported by Latino-Review that Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Beyond the Lights) and four other young and talented actress, were testing for one of the lead female roles in the upcoming Star Wars Episode VIII, which is slated to be written and directed by Rian Jonson (Looper).
Well now it seems that Collider.com is confident enough to say that the Beyond the Lights star has landed the role in the upcoming Star Wars Sequel. No details on her character could be gathered, but it was reported that she and the other actresses were doing chemistry reads with John Boyega, if that’s an indication for anything.
Recently Benicio Del Toro joined the cast of Episode VIII as the main villain. The overall news has me really excited, I saw Beyond the Lights and I really didn’t think much of it story-wise and as a whole, but the performances were amazing, especially Mbatha-Raw who knocked the wind outta me while watching it.
So her being cast with Benicio Del Toro has me all kinds of excited, and truthfully out of all the upcoming Star Wars films, Rian Johnson’s episode VIII has me the most curious and excited, so I’m eager to see how everything turns out.
Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens hits theaters this December 19.
