A while ago the rumor around town was that Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow was in talks to direct Star Wars Episode IX, and now it appears that the rumor was right on money as today, it was announced that Trevorrow will indeed be directing the final installment of this new trilogy. In a statement the head of Lucas Film Kathleen Kennedy had this to say:
“Colin is someone I’ve been interested in working with ever since I saw Safety Not Guaranteed. The power of that film paired with the enormous success of Jurassic World speaks volumes about his abilities both as a storyteller and skilled filmmaker. We are thrilled to have such an incredible talent as Colin join our family and step into the Star Wars universe.”- Kathleen Kennedy
This is not a surprised at all, since Colin was rumored to be directing Episode 7 back when the project was first announced, it does seem like the studio wants individual voices and talents for each film. Each director has a different and unique voice and sense of style that they will bring to each installment. No doubt the monumental success Trevorrow had with Spielberg’s Jurassic Park franchise, helped cemented the deal with the studio and the director.
