The official twitter for The Force Awakens has released confirmation that Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones) is playing Captain Phasma. Along with a picture confirming her casting:
May The Fourth (Force) be with you. Today on this iconic day in geekdom, JJ Abrams has released some photos regarding the highly anticipated sequel Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Here the photos confirm things like Adam Driver being indeed cast as the film main villain Kylo Ren, and also reveal the character Lupito Nyango is playing in the film.
Also the film may have a surprise cameo with Jar Jar Binks…more on that later.
This is not all surprising as it was speculated since his casting that Driver was in fact playing the elusive and malevolent relic hunter. Clearly from this picture, it can be suggested that we will see Driver without his mask, which is something to look forward too…I guess.
As you can tell, the beautiful Oscar winning actress Lupita Nyong’o will be using motion capture for her character. While nothing specifically has been revealed about her character, once of the small details is that Maz will have her own castle and it will have a plethora of artifacts, alien species and droids, because Maz is a space pirate. Once could speculate that maybe she is after some of the same artifacts that Kylo Ren is after, which could make them competitors or even enemies.
Also, generally Space Pirates aren’t the friendly of characters so she may very well be an antagonist for our heroes. We also get a look at her band of pirates comrades.
Looks like a hardy crew to be sure, maybe they are a collective band of ruthless badasses, with awesome one liners and brutal force, or they are like Jack Sparrow’s crew a bunch of bumbling idiots, well have to wait and see, but speaking of bumbling bafoons. JJ has revealed that he actually considered or may indeed put Jar Jar Binks (the character every Star Wars fan adores so much), in the film…but not in the capacity that you may be thinking: “I have a thought about putting Jar Jar Binks’s bones in the desert there,” Abrams says, to much laughter. “I’m serious! Only three people will notice, but they’ll love it.” Seems as though JJ is in on the joke, and he gets it (no one likes Jar Jar).
Anyway with this news should suffice all the hardcore Star Wars fan who have been going through withdraw symptoms since the Star Wars celebration. Cheers.
