Channing Tatum to star In New Ghostbuster Movie

For those of you who are unaware, the 80s mega hit and cult classic film Ghostbusters is getting a reboot treatment after production for a third movie was continuously stalled. Well after much rumors and speculation in August of 2014, Bridesmaids director Paul Fiege had announced he was in production on a Ghostbusters reboot that would feature an all female cast, which consists of Bridesmaids costars Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy as well as SNL’s Leslile Jones and Kate McKinnon in the starring roles. The announcement was met with very mixed reaction some feeling that this was a step in the wrong direction, some felt that the female angle was just a gimmick and others felt that it was a bold move but that a reboot felt unnecessary, well reaction to the project became more popular as details of the reboot were being leaked in the publicly Sony scandal.

Channing Tatum

One of the emails talked about a potential Ghostbusters spin off that Channing Tatum was adamant about pursuing and starring in with former Parks and Recs star Chris Pratt. Well now he has his wish, Sony just announced that Anthony and Joe Russo directors of Community and the big hit Captain America: The Winter Soldier, will direct the project with Channing Tatum in the starring role and is also producing the projecy. The film is being written by Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3).

This is all apart of Sony’s new division called Ghostcops which is being headed up by Dan Akyrod and Ivan Reitman who in a statement had this to say:

“We want to expand the Ghostbusters universe in ways that will include different films, TV shows, merchandise, all things that are part of modern filmed entertainment. This is a branded entertainment, a scary supernatural premise mixed with comedy. Paul Feig’s film will be the first version of that, shooting in June to come out in July, 2016. He’s got four of the funniest women in the world, and there will be other surprises to come. The second film has a wonderful idea that builds on that. Drew will start writing and the hope is to be ready for the Russo Brothers’ next window next summer to shoot, with the movie coming out the following hear. It’s just the beginning of what I hope will be a lot of wonderful movies.”

I personally don’t know how I feel about this, I was one of the people whose response to the announcement of the Ghostbusters reboot mixed, the line up for both films are impressive and the talent behind them are immensely talented but I don’t really feel the need for a Ghostbusters reboot or this spin off in the works. However both films are in the very early stage of development, but for now I will remain optimistic.
